How Do I Grow a Successful Company Like Him/Her?
Do you ever wonder what it is that makes one entrepreneur very successful and another not? Is it luck, timing, money, connections, intelligence, honesty, dishonesty, attitude or that it is just ‘meant to be’ for some and not for others? I have put together a list of 10 Key Factors for all who wish to be successful entrepreneurs. I will discuss each of these Key Factors in their own article. Yes, a 10 part series. (There will be a test at the end!)
This list has been developed from two places: First, my personal experience of being an entrepreneur for over 30 years. Second, my consulting research and experience working with thousands of entrepreneurs worldwide.
Successful does not mean being Dale Carnegie, Bill Gates, Donald Trump or Mark Zuckerberg. It means achieving the success you want in your life. Each person’s definition for success is unique to them. If I gave 10 entrepreneurs $500K what would each of them do with it? Each would spend it in their own way, based on their personal values, goals and priorities. They way they spend it makes a statement of why they will or will not be successful, no matter how much money they have.
It is the creative thought of the entrepreneur that inspires them to go forth and make a difference. For each of us, as entrepreneurs, creativity will never be lacking. In fact, too much creativity may be our biggest downfall. Too many times we get caught up in the excitement of the creative idea and we lose focus on the most important task at hand. Creativity is the lifeblood of the entrepreneur. Almost all we have today is because an entrepreneur came up with the an idea for change or betterment to what currently existed.
The key is to know how to be effectively creative. How to harness your creative ideas and monetize them for your business. The way to harness these ideas is to have a very clear vision of where you want your business to be and in what time frame. Once you are clear on the vision, on the plan to get there, on the action steps you must take, then your creativity has a context. Without context, a framework of thought, you become more distracted then creative. What we call the “squirrel” effect. You know what I mean. Have you ever had your dog outside, trying to train it and then it sees a squirrel. What happens. GONE! Yup, they take off, or start barking or staring…..what they are no longer doing is paying attention to you. Without context your mind does not have a discipline to think within and will therefore come up with random creativity not structured creativity. When this happens, you end up creating MORE work for yourself. Therefore you end up further away from your goal, not closer to it.
You are creative. Be creative. Just do it responsibly and effectively.
